Every time I visit Tahoe, I am struck by the beauty of its natural and manmade landscapes. And with every project I do, I love finding unique, magical moments. This one is precisely at 11:56 AM on a fall day as the clad textured wall lites up this Residence in Martis Camp.

Shou Sugi Ban is Japanese technique that chars wood to preserve it! We love to play with the textures and the rhythms, this wall stretches through all three stories of the house. The unseen face of this structure serves an intimate home office on the top story while the stair treads and railings float on the backdrop on the wall face. Tons of natural light create a prism effect as they penetrate the stair treads and bounce between the glass walls, and a custom light fixture that we felt best evoked the essence of the space comes peeking into view on your way to the OBVIOUS destination… the wine cellar below!

This wall is the canvas where light, materiality, form and function come to play.
