Patio Season

Winter is finally relenting its grip over Northern California – the sun is shining, temperatures are rising ever so slightly, and the flowers are blooming. That means it’s patio season! Having a thoughtfully-designed outdoor space is a fun and essential aspect of home design. If you’re looking to refresh your outdoor set, allow us to give you a few ideas.

At one of our projects in Tahoe (pictured above), we mirrored the interior furniture on the exterior to create a really cohesive visual story. Allowing the separating wall has the ability to open all the way makes it all feel like one big gathering space, which is exactly what the client wanted. A patio is an extension of your home, so it makes sense to consider using similar furniture outside as you did inside.

This outdoor design is the perfect space for entertaining friends and family or enjoying some quiet relaxation after a hike. It’s a simple yet modern design and complements the exterior of the home. To take maximum advantage of the space, we added some seating pads along the concrete wall to provide more areas where guests can sit and enjoy casual conversation.

If you’re limited on outdoor space like this client of ours was, don’t fret – you can still create a beautiful and pleasant lounge area using smaller furniture and a tighter spatial design. Remember, the goal is just to create a little slice of paradise, which you can achieve with even just a comfy chair in a corner if that’s all the space you have!
