Springing Forward & Falling Back

Daylight Saving Time is around the corner – time to “spring forward!” Although we “lose” an hour of sleep, this month we honor our longer days with a review of the elegant and versatile 14 Series LED pendant by Bocci. I chose the 14 series for this Tahoe Retreat Residence not only for its obvious aesthetic appeal, but also its applied versatility to accentuate the aesthetic in this modern home design. The 14’s are composed of two hand-poured and hand-drilled half spheres punctured by a cylindrical void where the light source lives. They are dimmable, easy to clean and have a considerable weight, making them an excellent choice in interior lighting design. Each bulb is unique and can be hung singularly or as part of a constellation, indoors and out (just specify beforehand!). Case in point, the floating amber spheres soften hard surfaces in the bathroom, the cluster punctuates the entry, and the ‘Newtons Cradle’ arrangement marches along the run of the dining table in the kitchen, pulling together the entire kitchen design. These gentle yet efficient sculptures provide a range of atmospheric effects along with enough efficient light for the moment we “Fall Back.”
